A CALL TO EXAMINE CONSCIENCE

We, concerned students and professors of the College of Fine Arts and Design, believe that there is a time for sowing and a time for reaping. We believe that the truth is a thing or a circumstance that cannot be hidden or cannot be prevented from coming out. Now, the truth has come out and it shall usher us into the change every CFAD student and professor truly deserve.

The Office of the Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Santo Tomas has done a series of decisions that can be considered a true violation of both faculty and students' rights. During AY 2006-2007, the dean's office has unjustly removed Professors whose liberal teaching strategies began opening the eyes of the students. The undue case filed against another professor most recently because of his uniform, and the unjust illegitimate removal of the student publication's editor in chief who discovered malversation of funds from the publication's account released by the dean.

The CFAD students are not blind, and the CFAD faculty are not immobile. They are only listening and watching situations closely. And since abuse has indeed been done, now is the time to have them accountable. Now is the time to pay for the mistakes of the past, and finally reach the freedom CFAD truly deserves.

With several cases filed in various litigating institutions of the university, the Office of the Dean has lost its iron grip and its reign of terror among the studentry and the faculty, whom they have been deceiving with kind remarks and suave rhetoric. Now is the time for the officials of CFAD to examine their conscience and do the thing that is acceptable and honorable-RESIGNATION.

Accountability is the basic issue, and those who have betrayed the trust given to them by the students and the higher administrators, and the Dominican community must begin thinking for the betterment of the College, and if it entails their resignation, then they must do so.
