A petition to Champ Car World Series

To: Mr. Gerry Forsythe, Kevin Kalkhoven and OWRS.


Deeply concerned about the actual situation of Open Wheel in North America, the real fans, the fans who follow every race of Champ CAR since years are asking you for a change in the plans regarding the street courses in which Champ Car intends to go.

We have always accepted the inclusion of great events like Denver, Edmonton, or in previous years, Mexico City and Montreal. But the number of street courses is really too much, Long Beach, Tornto and Australia are great events in general, while Cleveland, Edmonton and Denver offer very good races and excitement but tracks with only 90 turns like San Jose, Houston and the proposed Las Vegas are not good tracks for Racing, the essence of the sport.

After the San Jose event in 2005, which had holes, train rails, and a waved surface; the real fanatics of the sport started doubting about the credibility of the OWRS.

The plan to get ovals out of the calendar cannot be accepted by the Open-Wheel fans since there is where Open-Wheel started, something that the Indy Racing League understands since they have Ovals, Permanent Circuits and Street-Airfield circuits with plans to include more permanent circuits.

In the history of Open-Wheel, some of the best races have been in ovals or great racetracks like Elkhart Lake, Laguna Seca, Montreal or Mexico City.

What you need to bring big crowds is not street courses, it is a good promotion and COMPETITION, the fans go for racing, otherwise we would prefer going to the circus or the cinema.

There are good venues like Australia, Mexico City, Monterrey, Denver and the Canadian tracks where you can draw big amount of fans while you have what I pointed in the sentence above (promotion and competition), as an example is Mexico City 2003, with 6 Mexican drivers and the Autуdromo to its full capacity, it is an event that remains and will remain in the memory of every person who was there shouting or that saw it by TV, where you could hear more the people cheering their 6 heroes that the cars.

This is a humble petition made by the Champ Car fanatics.
