IT Tallaght have rejected the previous crèche's offer for tender.
This will effectively remove the crèche services for the upcoming academic year. With very little notice, students with dependants now face the real problem that they may not be able to return to college due to the cut in support services outlined in the proposal. This will only create further barriers and restrictions to access to education.
The childcare assistance fund is also being cut down to maximum of 1 child per person which will also increase the cost incurred by the students, minimum €400 p/m increase, if two children. We are looking at a serious problem that would force students to defer or drop out of college.
