Babysitters Club Reunion

In the year 1986, author Ann Matthews Martin set out to write a four book series (one book for each girl) about a group of girls in a baby-sitting club. No one predicted how popular this series would become, or even how far past the original four books this series would expand. Fourteen years later, the group of girls in the club had expanded from four to ten (including one male member), over 200 books from the series were published, and three spin off series were created. Dolls, board games, a television show, and a movie were produced as result of the enormity of this series. These books were translated into many other languages, so that readers around the world could enjoy the wonderful world of The Baby-Sitters Club.

Now, seven years later, we the undersigned have an extraordinary request for Ms. Martin and those at Scholastic Inc. We would like to request special consideration for simply one more book. At the end of the series in the book Graduation Day, the members of the club finally graduated from middle school and buried a special time capsule. It was stated that the capsule would be opened during the summer in seven years, which would be the summer of 2007after the oldest clients graduated high school. While we realize that it is nearing summer of 07 and that writing and publishing a book is a lengthy process, we would not expect it to be released immediately. We understand that Ms. Martin has a new series that she is dedicated to, and would like to focus on. On the other hand, we are sure that Ms. Martin would be stunned to know how many lives a reunion book would touch. For many, the members of the babysitters club were the only friends some had growing up. They had no one else to turn to but this series. These members of the club were a great escape for some, and surprisingly, it is still this way. Women and men ranging from their mid teens to their early thirties still scramble around from thrift store to thrift store, and spend countless hours online hoping to complete their collections, hoping to find just one book to take them back to their old friends.

With all of that being said, we just need closure. While there are many fan fiction writers out there who have their own ideas of what happened to the club members as they grew older, any BSC fan will make it known that its not the same. The motto of the BSC was The best friends youll ever have! In many cases, this couldnt be closer to the truth. Some are struggling to transition into adult lives. Many are already there, and have been for some time. There is one thing that connects us to a world that we have long forgottenour childhoods and the best friends we could ever have. Considering that the last book of the series named the summer of 07 as a reunion time, we feel that it is only fitting that we circulate this petition now in hopes that we will have one last opportunity to catch up with our old friends of yesteryear.
