Billerica Transportation Fee Opposition

Please seek funding of the Regular Education Bus Transportation from sources other than a transportation fee.

A transportation fee will only tax people that live a certain distance from the school. Since going to school is not an extra-curricular activity, it should be accomplished by funding from within the current budget that is already in our property taxes.

Introducing a fee will divide the students into those who can afford to pay to take a bus and those who cant. Those who can not afford another fee will have to alter their lives in order to get their children to and from school. Many of these families do not have flexible work schedules that would allow them to drive their children. Many will have to seek the generosity of neighbors.

Introducing a fee will force more parents to drive their children to school thus increasing the current bottleneck of traffic at the school, increasing the safety risk to our children as they depart vehicles as well as the safety risk for those students who walk to school.
