As of June 12 2003 PayPal instituted the following policies, so that consensual adults can no longer purchase "adult" or "sexually oriented" material using their services.
YET when this petition was created on June 26th 2003,
You were able to purchase 4427 gun related items, and 9869 knives.
40 persons die from gunshot wounds in America every day.
The knife is the most likely weapon used in domestic violence.
Now, Pay Pal is an American company and under the American bill of rights (?)
They may do business with whom ever they please to or not to, That is their rights
It is your right to choose not to do business with them if you do not agree with their policies.
For the sake of the sexual and mental health of this planet, stop to think about the irony and stop using PayPal.
Thank you
Johnny

***PayPal Acceptable Use Policy Regarding Mature Audiences***
Date: 06/12/2003 Time: 14:47:00 PDT
As we previously announced, PayPal has updated its Acceptable Use Policy for buying and selling adult items on eBay. As of today, members in the Mature Audiences category will no longer be able to use PayPal to complete transactions. This modification to PayPal's policy in Mature Audiences is consistent with its new policy to no longer process payments for adult items anywhere on the Internet. While PayPal is owned by eBay, it is a different business with different business needs. PayPal must find the right balance between serving its community while minimizing financial risk. PayPal management feels that exiting the adult business with a clear and consistent policy is the best decision for its business. For more information about this change, please read the FAQ. You can find more information about other recent changes to PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy here.Regards, eBay
Why is PayPal no longer processing adult payments in eBay's Mature Audience category?
PayPal continually reviews its policies to ensure it is striking the right balance between serving the needs of its customers and minimizing financial and other risks related to its business environment. After reassessing the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal has determined that presenting a clear and consistent policy for adult transactions everywhere on the Internet best achieves this balance.
Why is PayPal making this change now?
We heard from some members who felt the policy was confusing. After reassessing it, we decided that it made sense to make the policy consistent across the board. As a result, after June 12, PayPal will no longer process transactions for adult items regardless of where on the Internet they are offered.
Why is PayPal making decisions about eBay policy?
This is a PayPal decision about PayPal's business. While owned by eBay, PayPal is a separate business with different business needs. After reassessing its Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal decided that presenting a clear and consistent policy for adult transactions anywhere on the Internet, is best for the PayPal business.
Does eBay plan to close the Mature Audiences category?
There are currently no plans to close eBay's Mature Audience category. This change only affects the use of PayPal in the category.
Will there be any other changes to eBay's Mature Audiences category?
There are currently no other changes planned for eBay's Mature Audience category. You can still buy and sell adult items in this category as long as you comply with eBay's listing requirements and restrictions and do not use PayPal after June 12.
What happens to live listings in the Mature Audiences category after June 12?
Users will not be allowed to use PayPal for payments after June 12 in the Mature Audiences category regardless of when items are listed. To avoid confusion among buyers, we recommend that sellers in this category refrain from offering PayPal as a payment method beginning June 1.
