Bring Back 49er Football

We, the undersigned, hereby pledge our support for the reinstatement of the sport of intercollegiate football at California State University, Long Beach.

The Cal State Long Beach Football Team can trace its roots back to 1955 when the sport was first established at CSULB. In the 36 years of competition prior to the programs cancellation following the 1991 season, the Cal State Long Beach Football program has produced numerous professional football players and a number of former coaches have coached or currently coach in the National Football League. We believe that reinstating the Cal State Long Beach Football Team will provide a greater sense of pride and cohesiveness among current students, alumni and the community in the greater Los Angeles and Orange County, California area.

Reinstating the football program entails a student activity fee of $86 per semester phased in over five years ( e.g. yr1 $25, yr2 $25 + $17 ($42), yr 3+ $25 ($67), yr4 +$13 (80), yr5 + $6 (86) ) . This activity fee would not only finance NCAA mens football, but NCAA women's
crew, lacrosse, and field hockey and scholarships as well also necessary athletic trainers and associate directors that would need to be hired.

The main argument for the elimination of the Cal State Long Beach Football program in 1991 was overall apathy and a lack of fan support at that time. By signing this petition, we are proving that assumption to be false and no longer valid in todays climate.

We, the undersigned, plan to support the Cal State Long Beach Football program in any way we can. We encourage the California State University, Long Beach administration and Associated Students, Inc. to reinstate the football program for competition in the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).

This petition will be presented to Christopher Chavez, ASI President & CEO-Associated Students, CSULB, Inc. The petition will be presented during a special town hall meeting intended to gauge interest in reinstating the Cal State Long Beach Football program to active status.

By signing this petition, we request California State University, Long Beach reinstate the Cal State Long Beach Football Team to full competitive status within the NCAA.

The dollar amount determined is subject to an increase of up to 5 dollars based on a margin of error and subject to decrease as well.
