We, the undersigned, ask that you recommission BBC 2 comedy series Bellamy's People for a second series. We feel that it was among one of the best comedies the BBC has produced in recent years and that it deserves further investment from the BBC for artistic reasons.
While it may be the case that the number of viewers for the first showing of the first series was disappointing, we feel that this could be attributable to some degree to a lack of promotion from the BBC.
We appreciate that the BBC has a difficult task in commissioning work which uniquely fits within its remit while also appealing to the widest possible audience. However, given the proven BBC track record of the talent involved with Bellamy's People, we would ask that the programme be given further time to develop and find its audience.
The recent strategic review has made it clear that BBC2 must 'Establish a stronger and more distinctive role in comedy, supporting the cult classics of the future as well as new comedy with the potential to become the mainstream hits of tomorrow.' We feel commissioning a second series of Bellamy's People - with its strong character-based comedy combined with cutting edge experimentation - would show strong willingness to meet this challenge.
Finally we would like to point out that much material that could be used for a the second series has already been shot during production of the first, and that a failure to exploit and share this already-existent material is wasteful.
By affixing my signature below, I would respectfully ask the BBC to review this petition, the support it shows, and consider the renewal of Bellamy's People for a second series.

Please don't axe this show before it's even found its feet on TV - give intelligent comedy a chance, and stop commissioning god awful rubbish like Russell Howard's Good News - he is TV's least funny comedian.

There isn't enough comedy of this quality. Armstrong and Miller may be popular but it's comedic appeal is minimal despite the Bafta. Please give Bellamy's People another series.

Bellamy's People is the best comedy show the BBC have broadcast in a long while. I cannot begin to see why it has been refused a second series as even the thought is completely ludicrous!
