CALL FOR AN IMMEDIATE BAN OF THE COSMETIC USE OF SYNTHETIC PESTICIDES IN NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR
WHEREAS: many health organizations (e.g. the Ontario College of Family Physicians, Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Lung Association etc.) and prominent Newfoundland doctors advise avoiding synthetic pesticides, due to their negative health impacts;
WHEREAS: chemical pesticides have been shown in numerous studies to be harmful to human health particularly for children, the pregnant mother and her unborn fetus, and the environment;
WHEREAS: chemical pesticides are unnecessary because sustainable, healthy and effective alternatives are available;
WE, the undersigned, petition the province of Newfoundland & Labrador as follows:
To immediately prohibit the cosmetic use of synthetic pesticides in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador
