Centennial High School Dress Code

We, the below signed students of St. Lucie West Centennial High school, object to the dress code that has been set for the aforementioned school and is to commence in the 2006-2007 school year. We understand the need for a dress code, and are willing to have a representative help decide on a new one, but we believe that the current dress code is an infringement on our first amendment rights. The first amendment includes our freedom of expression, in essence, our freedom to find a way to individualize ourselves, a way to find our selves, and to separate ourselves from the crowd, while in turn uniting ourselves in this search. We also find that enforcing a dress code that requires us to wear blue and red is not a viable solution to the gang problem, because the two prominent gangs in this area are the bloods and the Cripps, the bloods choosing red as their gang color, and the Cripps blue. Thus you are worsening the situation by allowing them to wear only their gang colors and causing conflict between the two groups. Please consider our request. And to the signers, please keep this petition legal and sign only your name, only once.
