CISAA Championships Moved to a Week Day

We request that the CISAA Administration move the championship finals from Saturday to a week day for all sports. By having the finals on a Saturday, you are creating an unnecessary conflict for student-athletes that participate in sports or other activities outside of school.

- Many student-athletes compete in sports teams outside of school. They spend countless hours training hard with these teams towards a provincial championship at the end of the season.

- These team have no option except weekends to hold their tournaments and races. The CISAA can hold their finals on any day of the week.

- By having the CISAA finals on Saturday, you are forcing these athletes to choose between their school team and their club team.

- If they choose their school team, they are letting their club team down and possibly could cause them to have a lower ranking going into their provincial finals.

- If they choose their club team, they are letting down their school. This is a no-win situation.

- These athletes are the very ones that the CISAA should be encouraging to participate on school teams. They spend more time practicing and therefore are usually the top athletes on the team. Their higher level of play also brings up the other athletes on the team so everyone plays better.

- The top team in a division usually hosts the finals. That team will get much more support from their peers and teachers if the final is held on a Thursday or Friday afternoon. It would be so much more fun for the athletes to play the final in front of a packed crowd.

- Since only the top-4 teams go to the finals, it does not require the athletes to miss the entire day of school. The two matches that are required could all be held after school.

Please move the championship finals to a week day so these athletes are not put in this very difficult situation having to choose between their two teams.
