Class 442

Class 442 trains, otherwise known as 5-WES have been serving the Weymouth Waterloo line since the late 1980ies, when they were built. For the people they carry, they provide a comfortable environment for distance travelling.

South West Trains is currently in the process of withdrawing these trains. The withdrawal process will be complete by February 2007. Class 444 trains will be taking their place. While the Class 444s are reasonable, modern trains, they do not have the same levels of comfort or ride quality as the Class 442s.

We would like to see some, if not all the Class 442s retained by South West Trains and kept on the Weymouth Waterloo line where the remaining few are currently deployed.

SWT Please listen to your customers and KEEP THE 442s on SWT METALS!

196. Terry M | What is it about these railway companies. Image is NOT everything. You got rid of perfectly good , comfortable , reliable slamdoors and now turn your attentions to the 442's. What do you replace them with ?. Dire, awful, uncomfortable desiro trains AND yo

187. Graham H | why crap on the portsmouth line customers by taking our new trains, the 442 fleet are well liked and the slam door stock on the pompey line were 40 yrs old when withdrawn n the 442 isnt even 20 so why withdraw them it shows total disregard to the portsmou

182. Liam Boyle | Excellent, spacious and comfortable trains. It seems such a waste to replace them with less comfortable desiro trains because of the 'good image.' The situation is not any better in Portsmouth with the 450s. Why not use these to strengthen original trains
181. Brian W | The 444, and especially the 450 rolling stock is an insult to long distance season ticket holders.
180. Nicholas B | Do not scrap these wonderful trains. They knock the socks of a 450!
179. As C | Profit must never come before customer comfort & service
178. Harry A | One of the only EMUs left with buffers!
177. Ifor T | These are the most best, comfortable EMUs in Britain - we need them back!
176. Stephen S | 442s (and the similar HSTs) are by far the best trains that have run on south west metals. Hope you sort the lease conditions ready for their return.
