Demand For MP Pay Cut

With job cuts, the recession word being thrown around again, diffculties balancing our federal budget, and continual cuts and lack of funding to our public services, We are petitioning the Federal Government to implement an accross the board pay cut to their anual salaries and extra allowances/remuneration that fall under the Parliment of Canada Act. Currently a Canadian MP earns a base salary of $155,400.00. The Prime Minister earns an additional $155,400 (total of $310,800.00), a cabinet Minister earns an additional 74,400 as does the Leader of the Opposition and the Speaker of the House (total of $229,800.00). There are other allowances such as car and rent that are given. Members who occupy certain offices and positions are entitled to additional remuneration in accordance with the Parliament of Canada Act such as Parliamentary Secretary, Party whips, other party House Leaders, Deputy House Leaders, etc. A simple $20,000 pay cut to the basic MP salary would generate $6Million dollars surplus, and a 3% decrease in extra expenses that could be used towards public services, keeping jobs, creating jobs and working on our economic infratsructure.
