For a University that prides itself on its commitment to technology, any resident would expect to see this demonstrated within the walls of their Living Learning Center.
The poor quality of Duquesne University Internet service in the Living Learning Centers inhibits both Academic Pursuits, including access to research databases, Duquesne Webmail, DORI, Blackboard, and Recreational Pursuits, such as video/audio conferencing, simple internet surfing, online gaming, legal media downloads, and streaming media.
Duquesne University does not provide adequate bandwidth to the Living Learning Centers. This leads to unreasonably long download times and extremely poor reliability, especially during peak usage hours.
Duquesne University severely limits access to many ports on DuqNet. This stops numerous applications from accessing the internet. Due to these limitations, Duquesne University Living Learning Center Residents are unable to use many popular applications including games, and audio/video conferencing programs
We, the paying students who live on this campus for the majority of every year we spend here, feel that Duquesne University is obligated to provide us with proper and reliable internet connections. If this requires the improvement of the network hardware and software, then this should be handled accordingly.
As we serve the University through various means, it is a reality that the University hold true to its responsibility and provide us, paying students, with at least adequate internet services in the Living Learning Centers.
