Dear Congress

I write to you in hopes that you will consider my communitys request, which is for you to advocate for and protect ideals that we as Americans strive for and believe in. Freedom and justice are principles that serve as the foundation to our nation and its functioning. However, the US has been condoning the opposite in reference to Israels recent actions against Palestinian civilians in th Gaza Strip. As long as the United States continues to endorse Israels aggression against these civilians, the increase in civilian deaths and injuries will continue to incline and the situation will continue to grow more violent, all the meanwhile our nation loses touch with its well rooted principles. We cannot endorse Israel by blindly ignoring what we stand for. Thus we ask, as our representative to this great nations Senate, to publicly represent the following views in the name of democracy, freedom, justice, and equality:

I. Palestinian Situation

The Condemnation of Israels Exacerbation of Gaza, its Humanitarian Crisis, and its Use of Collective Punishment .

The Condemnation of Using our Taxes to Support These Actions.

The United States encouraged Palestinians to hold truly democratic elections without any corruption--the first of its kind in Arab countries! The group elected may fall contrary to what the United States government had in mind, and thus the US has resolved to support the annihilation of this government since it stands as a terror group. However, this support of Israel's opposition to Palestinian autonomy translates into monetary support, monetary wealth that can be concentrated here in our state rather than a State that is in constant conflict. We supply them with weapons and provide billions in military aid. While the US supports the reform or removal of Hamas, the US is also supporting the means Israel has employed to carry out this process, namely the targeting of civilians and the utilization of collective punishment on an entire population. Senator, this must be condemned. We as Americans do not endorse collective punishment here in the states. We believe that the individual is responsible for his or her crimes. Why then, Senator, have we resorted to supplying ammunition against civilians who have committed no crime? This has led to an impeding humanitarian crisis in the region, which is encouraged by our funding. Senator, our tax money should never be directed to the punishment of innocent civilians. If we wish to maintain our image in the world as a democratic nation, and wish for the Palestinians to follow suit, then we must be an example to these people and maintain that one is innocent until proven guilty. That is, Israel must be condemned for assuming that all of Gaza is guilty, and it must be condemned for creating a large humanitarian disaster because of its unjust policy. My community and I stand against the use of our tax money being directed to such an undemocratic policy.

Thank you for considering the views of my community. I hope to receive a letter from you soon in response to this, answering the questions I have posed.
