FIRE GLEN SATHER

Glen Sather became the President and GM of the New York Rangers in June 2000. After hiring and firing 2 coaches in 3 years, he took on that role as well in January 2003. Since his initial hiring, he has transformed the Rangers from an aging, overpaid, underachieving team that had missed the playoffs for 3 straight years...into an aging, overpaid, underachieving team that has missed the playoffs for 6 straight years [and is on its way to 7].

When he was hired by the Rangers, many believed that giving Sather the Rangers' unlimited budget would allow him to truly showcase his talent as a hockey-man and as a GM. Sather came to NY promising to use the Rangers financial resources wisely to turn the Rangers into a competitive and contending team, while still restocking the organization's prospects.

The opposite has happened. Sather's Rangers have been at the top of the payroll lists every year, and, worse, have received nothing but early tee-times for their money. Sold-out Rangers games used to be the norm at Madison Square Garden, but are now the exception. The organization is devoid of all but a handful of future prospects, many traded away by Sather in return for past-their-prime superstars. The names he has acquired are glittering -- Messier...Lindros...Bure...Kovalev...Jagr -- but the team's play has failed to live up to its promise or its paycheck.

In short, Glen Sather has completely rebuilt this team in his own image -- old, washed-up, over-paid, lazy, and spoiled past his expiration date.

Your faith in Glen Sather is misplaced. He has proven himself unable to organize and coach a winning team. He has spent Cablevision's money foolishly, and has driven fans from the Garden. He, and the Rangers organization in general, are a laughing-stock in the hockey community.

Regardless of what you may hear or believe, Rangers fans will support a "rebuilding" team -- Rangers' fans desire winning, of course, but they also require, and will support, a team that shows effort, energy, and enthusiasm. Glen Sather has put together a team that rarely shows any of those qualities -- and it loses regularly and misses the playoffs to boot.

To compound the problem, Sather has blamed anything and anyone -- from injuries (to players he acquired with a history of the same)...to the fans booing...to the angle of the moon. He has never taken any responsibility for putting this team together, and, this season, coaching it.

Failure to fire Glen Sather immediately will only further damage the Rangers, Rangers fans, Cablevision, and the sport of hockey in general. By firing him now, you can allow his replacement to start the desprately-needed restructuring of this team, both in the short-term and the long-term.

Please, the embarassment of the Rangers has gone on long enough.

Glen Sather needs to be fired, immediately.
