Re: Elder Veronza Bowers, Jr. #35316-136
Chairman Edward F. Reilly, Jr.:
This petition is urgently written as support for the expedient release of inmate Elder Veronza Bowers, Jr. Since his scheduled release date of June 21, 2005, Elder Bowers has been held against his legal rights, despite the absence of any admissable justifiable reason, nor any obvious record available to prolong his imprisonment.
Elder Bowers has served his mandated sentence as a result of his conviction and did so as a "model" prisoner. Unfortunately, despite, his exemplary behavior, Elder Bowers has not only endured harsh and undeserved treatment during the 30+ years he has served, but, to add insult to injury, despite numerous letters of support from prominent Attorneys, former high-ranking representatives of Regional Commissions, Prison officials and a member of the U.S. Congress, Elder Veronza Bowers has continually been denied release due to unjustifiable intervention by the the U.S. Parole Commission, the Board on which you justly serve as Chairman.
To add, as you are now well aware, he is a respected Elder in our Community and as such, is not a danger to society, nor at risk of committing any crime. Furthermore, any mention of his past political associations- can not be used as any legal grounds to deny his parole.
Thus, to do so would be considered not just a disgraceful reflection of the current U.S. Parole Commission, but is also an outright violation of his Constitutional and God-given rights. According to the U.S. Parole Commission laws- laws that you uphold and are sworn to enforce- Elder Bowers can not be denied on the basis of the severity of the original crime.
I have personally reviewed Elder Bowers background and in doing so, stand firmly by my decision to support him. Thus, I strongly urge the U.S. Parole Commission to hold true to the very laws that they uphold and grant Elder Veronza Bowers his freedom.
I thank you for your kind consideration of this petition, and know that it will assist you with making the necessary efforts to assist in the expedient release of our Elder, Veronza Bowers, Jr.
