The approval of the Garrett College Community Athletic & Recreation Center (CARC) is long overdue. For over 20 years, citizens and lawmakers have dedicated significant time and energy to establish this needed facility. Garrett County will be hard pressed to ever again have access to $15.5 million of State funds dedicated solely to a community recreation center.
The potential for programs that will positively impact the citizens of Garrett County, the faculty, staff and students of Garrett College, as well as visitors to our county are limitless. The steering committee, comprised of representatives from the Board of Education, Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Community Action, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Garrett College Board of Trustees, possesses the experience and commitment to ensure the success of this facility and its programs.
Garrett College President Dr. Jeanne Neff & staff have worked diligently to revise the capital and operating budgets as well as address your concerns with the project. With the deadline to utilize State funds fast approaching, now is the time to push forward with the CARC.
I support this meaningful project and urge you to vote in favor of building the Garrett College Community Athletic and Recreation Center.
