We, the undersigned, ask that city councils in the Lower Mainland plan for residential and commercial density along transit routes and transit nodes. We ask that new roads and bridges be built to ease current traffic congestion, and accommodate future growth, while also improving and expanding our transit systems to provide convenient options for commuters.
The Lower Mainland has fallen far behind most major cities in Canada and the US and its time to catch up! For far too long now nothing has been done to address the Lower Mainlands traffic congestion issues. Meanwhile, commuters suffer for hours on gridlocked roads, potential transit riders lack the viable transit options that would encourage them to leave their cars at home, and gridlock-related costs suffered by businesses are being passed on to consumers in the increased costs of the goods and services we purchase. Gridlock also has a cost in terms of reduced time spent with family, costs to the environment from gridlocked vehicles idling unnecessarily, and costs associated with the general stress experienced by the commuters who must endure gridlocked traffic conditions every day.
We, the undersigned, who represent the silent majority in the Lower Mainland, believe that by building infrastructure that alleviates traffic congestion and by building infrastructure that provides convenient, viable transit options for commuters, we will not only be ensuring that the Lower Mainland and BC thrive in the present but will also continue to thrive well into the future.
