No doubt the race which took place in Edmonton, Canada Sunday July 25, 2010
ended in nothing but undeniable controversy. The outpour from fans and
supporters was instant for the #3 Penske driver, Helio Castroneves.
Facebook and Twitter posts, text messages and phone calls were overflowing
since the call that sent Helio in an emotional post-race reaction.
Basic Recap:
Helio Castroneves held the lead for the final restart with 4 laps remaining in the race. Castroneves and his Team Penske teammate Will Power ran side- by-side for the top position as they entered the 1st turn. Castroneves then moved from the outside lane to the inside and officials claimed it interfered with the progress of Power. Indy Racing League official Brian Barnhart charged Castroneves for blocking and issued a drive-through penalty to the Brazilian driver allowing Dixon to charge past Power to take the 2nd position. Officials black-flagged Castroneves for failing to serve his penalty and placed him at the end of the lead lap in 10th at the finish of the race.
THE CALL WAS BLIND - AND STOLE THE RACE FROM CASTRONEVES WHO EARNED THE TOP SPOT LEADING IN THE FINISH. THERE WAS NO BLOCKING INVOLVED.
