Home Birth or Hospital? Families should have a RIGHT to choose.

After 2010 midwives in private practice will be illegal and will NOT be insured unless the registar with a Private Obstetritian or Obstetric GP, all of which have no obligation to accept the registration.
The South Australian study showed that babies were seven times more likely to die in a home birth than in a hospital delivery, however, Home Birth Australia pointed out that this study also showed that only nine died in a period of 16 years. Seven of these nine were proven to have occured in a Hospital and of the two that occured at the Home Birth one had known risk factors.
Now midwifes have no choice but to either not attend home births or attend and risk facing $30,000 fines or jail time and Parents are faced with having to have their baby at home without a trained proffesion risking complications or having their baby in a Hospital. Thus both the Womens right to choose and the Families right to choose have been taken away.
Families should have a right to choose and Midwifes should have the right to attend to the families, mothers and babies without being penalised for this.
