As members of the Afghan community in North America, we implore you to remove the vulgar scene in your upcoming film that depicts sexual aggression against a young Hazara boy.
As Afghanistan is struggling through a period of national reconciliation, your film, which will most definitely be available in Afghanistan, will through this scene serve the purpose of further polarizing the Afghan community back home. Furthermore, a scene of such vulgarity is an affront to the honor of Afghans in general, the Hazara population specifically, and the actors in the movie in particular.
This scene in the film, or even an allusion to the rape, will serve to anchor a notion of humiliation, ethnic inferiority, or ethnic superiority (for non-Hazaras) in the psychology of the viewers. This is a notion that we want to erase from Afghanistan. After decades of polarization, we will not stand idly to watch Hollywood pour more fuel into the fire. Enough is enough.
Although we could appeal to Paramount, we feel an effective means of taking action is to appeal to your good conscience. You have no doubt thought about many of these issues; we are asking that you take another look. We want to keep this within our community for now, and we feel that this sincere address will cause you to re-examine the ramifications of this scene. However, your failure to act will behoove us to take stricter measures to rectify this problem.
For the sake of God Himself, please set the wheels in motion to remove this scene from your film immediately.
