Hwy 290 Diamond Lanes

Population in northwest Houston is burgeoning and the result is traffic gridlock on Highway 290. It is not uncommon for stoppages as far out as Barker Cypress during both rush hour periods each day. We, the undersigned, petition Metro and TxDOT to immediately implement diamond lanes in each direction to improve access to the HOV lane on Highway 290 as was done for the Katy and Southwest freeways. The existing emergency lanes could be converted so there would be no loss of unrestricted lanes. Such action will promote the use of carpools and mass transit while improving traffic flow. It will provide the best opportunity for the success of the new Cypress 217 bus route.
