Increased Funding for Surrender Baby Program

WE THE UNDERSIGNED petition you to increase the funding from the state of California directed toward the programs that have resulted from The Safely Surrendered Baby Law (SBB). This law was enacted to save the life of a baby who would otherwise be abandoned by promoting parents or guardians to bring the baby to a Safe Surrender Site within the first 72 hours of the babys life without fear of legal repercussions. Without adequate funding, the program cannot promote awareness of the law and thus many struggling parents or guardians will not have the option of safely surrendering their infant.

The SBB Law would be much more effective if the government imposed rules requiring state agencies to publicize the assistance the Law provides to California citizens. This, as well as creating an administration to oversee this program, requires additional funds. Currently, each individual county is forced to procure their own funding; thus, the quality and quantity of the Surrender Baby program vary drastically across the state.

Californias government needs to provide the proper funding so that all Californians, especially the innocent infants, can reap all of the benefits this law bestows.
