JBU Dining Services Revitalization

We, the undersigned wish to communicate to you our dissatisfaction with the John Brown University dining policy. We would like to impress upon you our expectation of change. We are not intending to complain about the current system or gripe about the way things are. We simply would like for alternatives to be investigated. The dining policy is unsatisfactory in many ways including but not limited to: lack of dining location options, lack of competition for the current services, and a flawed system of meal plans. The lack of options for dining location force students to eat in the cafeteria, lack of competition means that the cafeteria is in no way required to satisfy its customers in order to retain them, and a poor system of meal plans allows even less freedom in the already flawed system.

Alternatives to the current system need to be investigated, and options weighed. The current system is broken and we would like your help in fixing it.



What do we seek? We would like more flexibility in the dining plans. More locations that would be available using the meals included in our plan, both on and off campus. We seek competition for the current food service provider (Aramark), whether this competition comes from off campus private establishments, or through other similar providers.



A system of private establishments off campus included in the JBU meal plan would satisfy both these objectives. We understand the immense logistical and administrative considerations that such a system would entail. None the less we would like this option, as well as other, to be considered and investigated.



We most of all would like to know that work is being done to remedy the situation. Information on what options are being pursued and particular concerns surrounding them should be readily available to the student body. We would hope that the administration would work closely in conjunction with the Student Government Association so as to find a solution that is acceptable to both parties.



We see in this issue a great opportunity for the university. JBU is in a time of definite growth, millions of dollars are being spent to make the school more attractive and accepting to current students. The dining services can be a major element of the universities image and appeal. The current system is flawed and reflects poorly on the school's reputation. We have the opportunity to revitalize and replace an out dated and broken system. John Brown University could have a world class dining system. A system that sets JBU apart from similar schools, and shows the schools unmatched dedication to student satisfaction.



In conclusion, we do not wish to gripe or complain about the current system. We simply ask you assistance in helping us to explore alternatives and find a system that will be beneficial to both current and future students, as well as improve the reputation, atmosphere and overall quality of John Brown University. We want to be a part of this change, and we want to help make JBU an even better school to attend.
