The citizens of Kanawha County, West Virginia rely heavily on the volunteer fire departments that serve them. The issue of banning the use of firehouse sirens to alert the volunteer members of calls is dangerous. The firehouse siren serves not only as a notification to those members, but also as a warning to the citizens of the community. When the citizens hear the siren, they know to be aware of their surroundings because of the firefighters responding to a call. The citizens are also aware of the difference between the siren sounding for an emergency call and for a disaster situation. Granted, the firehouse siren is not the only means of alerting members, however, it is a supplement that continues to be relied on. We feel that banning the use of firehouse sirens for emergency calls will only put the lives and property of the citizens of Kanawha County at risk. Please allow firehouse sirens to be used for emergency calls in Kanawha County West Virginia to help ensure the well-being of the citizens that live here.
