To Middlesbrough Council

The undersigned give their signature in support of keeping open The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum, Stewart Park, Marton. The recent round of budget cuts is forcing the Museum to close over winter, with no firm date for a Spring re-opening, and with the threat of permanent closure hanging over it.

The Museum is a valuable local resource; we cannot abandon this areas most famous son. James Cook is a world famous explorer; surely the museum which marks his birthplace should be the last place to close through Council budget cuts? The Museum attracts visitors from all over the world; itll be a sad day if this Museum closes and we turn our backs on the revenue these tourists bring. Stewart Park has recently had millions spent on it; why close down the Museum at the heart of this beautiful local attraction? We want our children to grow up knowing the history and heritage of our area; The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum provides this to the parents, children and schoolchildren who visit. Please dont close it down.
