Each year, more than 750 million chickens raised for KFC suffer from overcrowded conditions, crippling bone and join problems resulting from top-heavy breeding, callous handling, inhumane slaughter techniques, and shortened life spans. Because chickens are intelligent and sensitive animals with strong social bonds, I urge David Novak and KFC to address these issues with urgency and negotiate with PETA to improve the lives of these animals.
We are asking that you (KFC) agree to PETA's demands which are:
(1)Adopt the Animal Care Standards program.
(2)Replace electrical stunning and throat slicing with controlled-atmosphere stunning-to-kill.
(3)Switch to humane mechanized chicken gathering.
(4)Breed for health rather than forcing rapid growth, and stop feeding drugs to chickens.
