Say No to Mining Northland!
Say Yes to developing sustainable, resilient local communities!
To the Mayor and Councillors of the Far North District, Northland, New Zealand:
We, the undersigned, do not support mining in Northland. We do support developing a strong local economy, based on respect for our natural environment; creating strong, resilient local communities; and sustainable enterprises.
The Far North District Mayor and Councillors are actively promoting Northland as being a region that welcomes mining. They are doing this without public discussion or consultation. I believe a great many Far North residents and ratepayers do not support mining, and would prefer to see our time and energy being put into developing a strong sustainable local economy that will insulate us from future "Global Economic Crises", help to mitigate the effects of global climate change, and give us economic autonomy. We need to speak up, make our voices heard, and get the message out to the world that our Mayor and Council do not have our backing on mining.
This petition is open to everyone who wants to see the Far North develop a strong, sustainable local economy free from mining.
