NO to Walmart Supercenter in Hadley

We oppose the proposed Walmart Supercenter at the Hampshire Mall on Route 9 in Hadley, Massachusetts, because it would: cause widespread traffic congestion and increase accidents on Route 9 and side streets, especially South Maple Street; pose unacceptable safety risks and aesthetic impacts for pedestrians and bicyclists, especially on the Norwottuck Rail Trail; destroy or fill wetlands that help control flooding and provide valuable habitat for rare species and other wildlife; destabilize our local economy by putting good-paying existing jobs at risk, especially jobs in the grocery industry; consume more than 20 acres of farmland and open space without providing compensation; conflict with the Commonwealth's sustainable development goals, the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission's Valley Vision regional plan and Hadley's Long Range Plan. We strongly urge you to exercise all regulatory and legal authority to reject all proposed plans for a WalMart Supercenter in Hadley, Massachusetts due to the aforementioned concerns.

33. Linda F | WalMart is getting too greedy. Once let in, it keeps pushing all others out; give smaller businesses a chance to survive. Leave the land alone, if I wanted to live in a city of big buildings and tar, I would move to the city.
