NYS Sportsmen Oppose Grannis Nomination

We, the undersigned, hereby petition the NYS Senate to oppose the nomination of Alexander Pete Grannis to become the new NYS DEC Commissioner. We have grave concerns regarding this nomination. In considering of his well-known record of being anti trapping, hunting and anti 2nd Amendment rights, this nominee would inflict severe, if not devastating damage to the vital, and extremely lucrative industries hunting, trapping and fishing represents to NYS; industries which through tax revenues and conservation fund contributions, buttress NYS ability to protect the natural resources the Department is charged to protect. Through his own political agenda, this ability would be crippled. The people of NYS deserve much better.

Further, Mr. Grannis has worked to DENY access to NYS Residents to public trails and parks, enjoyed by many thousands of hunters, anglers, snowmobilers, ATV enthusiasts, campers, hikers, climbers, et al., while denying basic protection services in the Adirondack State Forest, through his continued blocking of construction of Cell Phone Towers to provide communications coverage to NYS residents and non-residents alike, who enjoy and learn from the natural beauty of this region. Through his actions to block such construction of very non-invasive cell phone towers, two individuals lost their lives as they could not call for help.

We believe department should be run by qualified Biologists and Habitat Managers, not career politicians, as our natural resources deserve to be protected devoid of political agendas.

We hereby urge the NYS Senate to please oppose this nomination. We need a true conservationist running this department, not someone with a political agenda.
