Oppose Renaming of Milton Streets

The Town of Milton has proposed to change the names of streets affecting approximately 1000 properties. The Town of Milton has put forth Report No. PD-063-06 as their recommendation based on the need to provide accurate data to emergency services such as Police, Fire Department and Ambulance Services.
WE ADAMANTLY OPPOSE the Town of Milton's proposal as IT IS NOT A SOLUTION. It does not resolve conflicts in street names and instead creates confusion for residents, businesses and service providers in the community. In some cases, it creates new conflicts. In addition, the cost to taxpayers is unknown as the Town of Milton has not calculated the cost of this proposed change. Spending anymore time or money on this proposal is wasteful since appropriate and practical solutions have been proposed.
WE ADAMANTLY OPPOSE this proposal and appeal to the Town of Milton to consider alternative and cost-effective solutions such as those listed below:
- Training and Education of emergency personnel (Dispatchers/drivers/911/etc.) to ensure that they are able to determine the location of an emergency from the caller. This training should become part of the orientation program for new personnel as well as existing personnel.
- Ensure that street signs are at every corner with an unobstructed view for drivers
- Provide adequate lighting at street intersections
- Provide numbering information on street signs to identify which series of house numbers run north/south or east/west of an intersection

There seems to be little justification for this exercise. In fact, I see very few duplicates at all - unless you leave off the name of the town you live in! Focus instead on clarity of signage, and training of emergency personnel.

suck it up ppl.....can't you see when something is being done for your own good, there have been issues and there will be issues if these streets maintain the same name (as in EVERY other growing municipaltiy) My lord, you'd think that they were changing
