We the people sign this petition urging our government to outlaw the sale and distribution of semi-automatic handguns and rifles to civilians. Both of the guns used in the Virginia Tech Massacre (.9mm Glock & .22 caliber Walther) are semi-automatic weapons that were designed for military and law enforcement use. The massacre at Columbine High School also was carried out by teen-agers using military style weapons. Semi-automatic weapons are too easy to purchase and too commonplace in our society.
In signing this petition, we the people agree to ask our Congressional and state representatives to introduce and press for legislation to outlaw the distribution of semi-automatic guns to civilians. We believe that guns designed for military use and designed to kill do not belong in the hands of ordinary citizens.
