This petition by users of the children's playground at Steel Park in Marrickville draws the attention of the Marrickville Council to our concerns for the safety of the children using the facility.
The park is located in close proximity to the Cooks River bank and the council has pointed out on their own website page for Steel Park that 'Children can drown in shallow water'. While parents /guardians will endeavour to constantly monitor their children, on occasion there are many children at the park and a small child can easily and quickly get to the river edge faster than an adult.
We urgently request Marrickville Council erect a fence in the immediate vicinity of the children's play area to block off accidental access to the Cooks River.
