We, the undersigned, wish to remind the moderators of the FARK.com website that the banning of unpopular opinions and/or cliches from the public dialogue, is often the first step a democracy can take in the unhappy road towards despotism and tyranny.
As such, we prevail upon you to remove any censorship of the cliche:
"In Soviet Russia, ______"
Although the banning of such a cliche may seem a trivial matter to some, on a fundamental level what we are witnessing here is nothing less than the brutal stifling of free expression on the Internet - a venue that is supposed to give a voice to, not to vilify, those who hold opinions not considered "mainstream" by the general community.
If we as citizens do not fight to preserve our freedoms, who else will? Consider that if such freedoms are not protected today, one day our children, or our grandchildren, could grow up in a world where even venturing to post a comment using the words "It's a trap!" might be enough to earn them permanant bannination from FARK.com.
Is this the kind of world we wish to bequeath to our offspring?
In conclusion, we ask only that the FARK moderators consider the wise words of Thomas Jefferson, who asserted:
"Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost."
We thank you for your consideration.
