Petition to protest the defamation by the Spanish Communication media against Muslim Women and Islam.

We the Hispanic Muslim women of the USA are rightfully indignated at the negative views presented on Islam and Muslim woman, broadcast on Spanish Radio and Television. As an example let us draw attention to the airing on December 17, 2002 of El show de Cristina on Univision with Behind the Veil . This program used people who had bad experiences with Muslims and in a Muslim country where things did not go well.
It is unjustifiable to judge a religion and its congregates using a so called Religion Expert as Khalid Duran. This man is an Islamaphobic due to his passionate aversion to Islam. His goal is widespread defamation of Islam.
This show was not a fair representation of our Beliefs or allowed for a rebuttal. Unfortunately, Television ratings WERE the priority. No one took into account that there are over 7 million Muslims in America and among them several thousand Latino Muslims who merely want to live in peace and harmony.
It is unjust to generalize a minority group, another word for this type of stereotyping is called Discrimination . This only creates resentment among TV viewers and an atmosphere of hostility against Muslims in general.
Your programming is always suggesting that the Mid East mistreats women.
Dont you realize that you are also mistreating and slandering our dignity.
We demand respect towards our Religion and Muslim women. Therefore we request airtime to expose the misinformation that is being broadcast. Or rebuttal time to answer the allegations.

Peticion de protesta en contra de las difamaciones otorgadas por los medios de comunicacion a la mujer musulmana y al Islam.

Nosotras, Latinas Musulmanas en Estados Unidos estamos muy indignadas ante la forma tan negativa que la mujer musulmana y el Islam han sido representados por radio y television en el lenguaje Espaсol. Por ejemplo, El Show de Cristina del dia 17 de Diciembre por Univisiуn titulado ''Detrбs Del Velo''. Cristina contratу o escogiу a personas quienes tuvieron malas experiencias con personas ''musulmanas'' en un pais ''musulman.''
Es injustificable juzgar a una religiуn y sus feligreses solo porque las personas invitadas al programa no les fue bien en un paнs musulmбn. Asн como, el ''EXPERTO'' en religiуn llamado Calid Duran; quien tiene una aversiуn apasionada por el Islam[Islamofуbico] con una agenda muy amplia de difamaciуn. El programa de Cristina no tuvo una representaciуn justa de las creencias Islamicas ni dejу cabida para refutar los malos conceptos. Pero, y lamentablemente a Univisiуn solo le interesу tener un alto grado de televidentes, con la finalidad de ganar popularidad. Nadie tomу en consideraciуn que hay mбs de 7 millones de Musulmanes Americanos y entre ellos muchos Latinos, que queremos vivir en paz y hermandad con los demбs. Es injusto crear estereotipos de una minorнa, pues ello trae consigo descriminaciуn y crea resentimientos entre los televidentes y promueve una atmosfera de hostilidad hacia los Musulmanes. Los medios de comunicaciуn siempre han representado a la cultura del medio oriente como aquella en la cual las mujeres son maltratadas. Se dan cuenta ustedes que nos estбn maltratando y aniquilando nuestra dignidad.? Demandamos respeto hacia el Islam y a la mujer Musulmana. De aquн que, pedimos se aclare toda la mala informaciуn, por medio de entrevistas por television a eruditos en el Islam o en religiуn comparativa, los cuales deberбn tener un criterio neutral, amplio y sin prejucios.
