Petition to Reverse the CTA cuts and Improve School Transportation

Due to poor policy, the Chicago Transit Authority currently jeopardizes the safety of students and impedes our ability to attend school and learn effectively. We merely ask for basic reforms to guarantee access to our basic human rights of safe passage to and from school and other educational activities.

We, the undersigned, demand the following reforms to improve the effectiveness of school transportation to support student safety and learning:
1) Restore the cut services and driver positions. Take the money out of your proceeds from TIFs or advertising and if you need to cut, cut the administration and management.
2) Immediately all CTA trains and buses should allow students to use reduced fare passes with a student ID at any time.
3) Students returning home late should be allowed to ride safely home.
4) In the long-term, students would be allowed to three free rides (plus transfers) per weekday up to two hours before school begins and for after school activities and two free rides for extracurricular activities on weekends as other cities do. (As they are in other major cities.)
5) A public meeting led by the community with both of you present within the next 30 days to explore these possibilities.
