We are devastated as a quad bike track has suddenly been built 600m from our house in a peaceful valley near Amandola, Le Marche Italy. This has bought unbearable noise pollution to us and many of our neighbours.
We first came to Le Marche in 2001 and immediately fell in love with the beautiful, peaceful Amandola area, with its stunning countryside and knew this was the place we wanted to spend our time living and working in and we set out working to create a wonderful, peaceful, relaxing retreat. After years of hard work, we had achieved our goal only for it to be shattered. Not only has there been severe deforestation of trees and loss of countryside, but now we have to cope with extreme noise pollution too. It is unbearable to sit out in the garden and relax and even with the doors and windows closed (which would be impossible to keep them closed in the summer). The noise reaches 70 - 90 decibels. The local commune has passed the planning permission even though this land can not be used for this type of activity as they are desperate for income and have been told to pass everything. This is just so sad and wrong. We know the Le Marche tourist board is spending huge amounts to promote this peaceful place, but in our valley, it is not like this any more and they too be pushed into action. Amandola relies on tourism and a great deal of revenue is generated from the tourists attracted to the Sibillini Mountains. If this activity is allowed to continue, people will not return to the area, after listening to hours and hours of noise pollution. This is not what people want when relaxing on holiday.
