Professional development Portfolio for Registered Dietitian

As Registered and future Dietitians, we understand the need of the ADA to monitor its members and professionals, but we do not believe that the DPD is the correct way to do so for the following reasons:
RDs are the only clinicians who require for such portfolio.
We are all professionals with different professional goals. The ADA should allow us to achieve those goals without the added burden of ensuring that they follow the portfolio guidelines. We would like our career paths to evolve naturally.
The PDP is very restrictive. We should have the freedom to attend any conference that will help us maintain our credentials or fulfils our professional interest. The DPD lesson plan restricts what seminars/workshops we are allowed to attend.
Many RDs are NOT career oriented. There is nothing wrong with that. It is Not the ADA or CDR role to force them to have one.
The ADA should trust us to maintain our credentials and knowledge. We do not need a portfolio to monitor us.
We feel that the DPD is a repressing tool rather then a motivator.
As long as all of us maintain current and perform professionally this should be the ONLY concern of the ADA of CDR.
In conclusion we request the following:
1. Stop the PDP requirement for maintaining our credentials.
2. The ADA should monitor our 75 CEUs for each 5 years cycle. Nothing more.
3. RDs, who wish to continue with the PDP program, are welcome to do so. No extra credit or penalties should apply.
Sincerely,
The undersigned
