Not for those dogs who live here on the streets and beaches of Phuket, in a new local government sanctioned operation, dogs that are deemed to be stray are being darted and tranquilized by untrained garbage disposal employees and then dumped in the back of a garbage truck to be driven around in the heat of the sun until the end of the day when they are then taken to the Government Dog Pound at Mid Road, many do not make it and most die from tranquilizer overdose or from heat.
The Mid Road Dog Pound is nothing more than a death camp and a place to hide the dogs from you, the visitors and the residents of Phuket, these dogs are placed in pens and sick dogs are placed in the same pens, so that cross contamination of deadly disease occurs and more dogs die faster.
There is NO medical attention given to any of the dogs that arrive there and many suffer an agonizing and painful death, something that should not be happening in Thailand, (land of the free).
In a recent move to clean up Patong many dogs were rounded up and thrown into the dustbin van and many died, Patong is a major tourist destination and many visitors and locals love their part time pets, they are nearly all gone, and most are now dead due to lack of care and attention, many people are asking, where are they, why are they gone, they have lived there all their lives and are not a problem.
All these dogs have done is be born into a society that does not feel the need to chain or confine their animals inside, and where they are able to roam free and unfortunately multiply.
Please voice your disgust at this barbaric treatment of Phuket's dogs and ask that the Governor of Phuket, Niran Kalayanamit instruct that no more dogs be rounded up and placed in the Phuket Dog Pound until the place is properly staffed and the place has the medical care available or even better that it is closed down and shut altogether.
