We the people signing this petition respectfully ask the Connecticut Board of Pardons and Paroles grant early release to Harold E. Shaw Jr. inmate # 219758. We understand the facts of this case to include, but are not limited to:

In October 2004, Harold was hunting with another person. The other person was found guilty of hunting out of season and punished with 2 days of community service. Harold, an ex-felon, accepted a plea bargain of 2 years in state prison for possession of a weapon by an ex-felon.

We understand Waterbury was the recipient of Homeland Security funds to get guns off the streets. We understand if this had occurred elsewhere in Connecticut, the prosecution would have been more lenient.

We also understand the Department of Environmental Protection of the State of Connecticut has issued Harold a hunting permit with the necessary paperwork to use a shotgun / rifle for deer hunting since his original release from prison and during his probation for his prior crime. Harold was an ineligible applicant, but the state accepted his fee and issued his permits. We believe these actions caused Harold to believe he could continue to use a shotgun / rifle to hunt as he has done all of his life.

Harold was received into Connecticut Department of Corrections on October 17, 2005, and is serving a 2 year term. Since his incarceration, Harold has exhibited good behavior. He has not only started GED classes, but also is working 3 meals in the kitchen. This demonstrates his work ethic.

Harold is committed to obeying laws and remaining a solid member of society upon his release. He has a spouse and a small child at home and his previous job is waiting for him. He would assume his role of sole support of this family, which is now being fully supported by the State of Connecticut, creating further burden to the State of Connecticut and its taxpayers.

It is respectfully asked of the Connecticut Board of Pardons & Paroles that you release Harold E. Shaw, Jr. # 219758.
