Remake Resident Evil 2, 3, and Code Veronica for Nintendo GameCube

To Capcom,

Please remake Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil: Code Veronica the same way the original Resident Evil was remade for the Nintendo GameCube. Direct ports of these games will do do a great injustice to Nintendo, the GameCube hardware, and fans of the series. Interest will wane long before Resident Evil 4 is released if the GameCube remakes of the rest of the series are not on par with 1 and 0 (as they clearly will not be, given the present course).

Resident Evil fans everywhere were held in awe by the remake of the original RE and the promise of a similar treatment for the entirety of the series for the Nintendo GameCube. Unfortunately, most, if not all, fans recoiled in horror once it seeped into the public consciousness that Resident Evil 2 and 3 for the GameCube were going to be mere ports of the original PlayStation games, thus lacking the polish of 1 and 0 that drew many new fans to the series in addition to bringing back many older ones.

The Resident Evil fans demand something more from the GameCube versions of 2 and 3, something better. For a price tag of $40 each, where PlayStation and Dreamcast versions of the games may easily be had for under $10 (which are identical to the forthcoming new games), this is a shameful act by Capcom to ride the renewed wave of popularity 1 and 0 have created. Ironically, this wave will crash down more quickly than it rose, since having gotten a taste of what the RE series could be, no one will be able to lay down the money for a 5 year old 32-bit game for a new 128-bit system when many worthy titles will be available for a similar price tag.

There are many people who have never played a Resident Evil game ever before, the petition author included, who would like nothing more than to see the entire series remade, as was originally promised and partially delivered (with Resident Evil 1). These individuals will have no desire to buy poor quality PlayStation rehashes for any price, much less the same price as more contemporary titles, though they would be more than happy to spend the approximately $300 total to purchase the remade 1, 2, 3, and Code Veronica, as well as the newer 0 and 4 (at $50 each). If fans are to only buy the newer games, they will end up spending half as much ($150) instead. Collectively, this is an astronomical amount of potential revenue lost, made even more damaging by the labor that went into porting the games that no one is going to buy (and probably already own).

Capcom is missing a huge opportunity and cheating a large, loyal, and growing (but not for long if this continues!) fan base that has come to expect the high grade of quality presented by 1 and 0, and that should be rightfully continued by 2, 3, and Code Veronica; especially if Capcom would like to see its customer base actually purchase these games for the Nintendo GameCube.
