removal of section 28 KCC

Section 28 means homosexuality cannot be promoted inside schools at all and as a consequence it is normally completely missed out from discussion in PHSE lessons. Surely this is exactly the sort of thing PHSE should be covering?
There are many concerns that I have read from parents saying they are worried that by "Promoting" homosexuality in schools and allowing it to be covered, then it might influence their children's sexuality, but truth be told, had the parents been educated themselves, they would know that sexuality cannot be that easily influenced, and all this would do is help children who are homosexual or bisexual realise that their sexuality is acceptable, as well as help heterosexuals realise that bisexual and homosexuals do exist and should be accepted in society and respected as they too are just human beings. It would help homosexual and bisexuals realise that their sexuality shouldn't have to be hidden from their parents, friends and family.
We feel that had we had the learning and the ability to communicate our feelings when we were coming out, life would have been much easier. As it was we, like so many others, had to hide our feelings because we felt other people would not accept us.
So to help others like us and to help produce a generation of more openly minded individuals towards homosexuals and bisexuals, we propose that for Kent County, section 28 should be taken down and homosexuality should be covered at some point in the PHSE Curriculum.
