There are about 1000 computers at our campus, which are placed and managed by LIS (Library and IT-Services). These computers are especially meant for TiU-students who are studying at Tilburg University. Due to reorganisation, the board of our university wants to cut the amount of computers on campus in half, from 1.000 computers to 500. In proportion to the amount of students this means that there are only 500 computers available for 13.000 students. The reason behind this is that students can bring there own laptop or tablet to study on campus. With this measure the ICT-costs will be reduced with €100.000,- each year.
However, we have heard different sounds from our rank and file that there aren’t enough computers at our campus. Furthermore, students will be obligated to buy a laptop or tablet and bring this to campus. At the same time it is not effective to accomplish group projects with a laptop or a computer. During several meetings we’ve stated on behalf of the student population that we can not accept this proposal. Nevertheless, the board of the university sticks with their point.
Through this petition we want to make a clear statement to the board of the university that we dissagree with this computer reduction and this proposal. The more students sign this petition, the stronger signal of disagreement will be given to the board of our university.
Sign this petition and save our computers.
