The Woodlawn Row Houses
Whereas: Nationwide, communities are realizing that, economically, it is cheaper to modernize or to renovate an historic building for "adaptive reuse" than to demolish it and start anew;
Whereas: The City of Buffalo can have a bright future if it capitalizes on its rich collection of potentially valuable historic buildings which can be an integral part of a renaissance;
Whereas: The city of Buffalo took possession of a property known as 147-153 Woodlawn Avenue, a historically significant two storey wood-frame row house complex in July of 2002;
Whereas: This property, 147-153 Woodlawn Avenue, was designated a вlocal landmarkв in 1981;
Whereas: 147-153 Woodlawn Avenue is boarded, derelict and vacant and poses a serious health threat to neighborhood residents and students from Buffalo Traditional High School;
Whereas; 147-153 Woodlawn Avenue faces the imminent threat of вdemolition by neglectв
Whereas; this imminent loss is preventable,
Be it resolved: That the undersigned residents of the city of Buffalo, NY and other concerned people having an interest in the preservation of 147-153 Woodlawn Avenue strongly urge Housing Court Judge Nowak to immediately and without delay compel the city of Buffalo to bring this city owned property known into compliance with all building, health and preservation codes.
