On the night of August 7th, Georgia began its full-scale attacks on South Ossetia, a region that won its independence from Georgia in the early 1990's. After taking the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali and killing up to 1,400 civilians, 90\% of which had obtained Russian citizenship years earlier, Russia intervened to cease Georgia's attack on the sovereign regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. While the media at large were either dishonest or truly duped by Georgia's claims of Russian aggression, Russia did not invade or occupy any part of Georgia proper; their involvement inside Georgia was limited to air strikes on military targets and troop movements in South Ossetia and Abhkazia. While human rights violations were rampant on the part of Georgia in their hostile aggression toward the Ossetians, Georgia has by and large gotten a free pass from the press and world opinion. Russia has been vilified to the extent that it seems most have forgotten that this entire conflict was initiated by Georgian military occupation of a sovereign, break-away state whose majority were Russian citizens. Certainly they have completely overlooked Russian humanitarian aid and its donation of tons of food, medicine and basic necessities including electric generators that have been appropriated to help the Ossetians, and the thousands of Ossetian refugees who were forced to take refuge in Russia due to the hostile actions of the Georgians.
As a result of the misguided media coverage and the biased foreign policy that has unjustly condemned Russia and cleared Georgian genocide, this petition was created for all those who wish to stand in solidarity with Russia and its swift military action to stop civilian genocide and occupation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
