The National Health Service (NHS) is in crisis. Chronic underfunding, staff shortages, and record-high waiting times are pushing the healthcare system to its limits. Patients are being forced to wait months, sometimes years, for essential treatments, while overwhelmed doctors and nurses struggle to provide quality care under immense pressure.

The NHS was founded on the principle of free, universal healthcare for all, but without urgent government action, this system risks collapse. This petition calls for immediate increases in NHS funding, urgent recruitment of healthcare staff, and reforms to reduce waiting times and improve patient care.

The NHS Crisis: Why We Must Act Now

1. Record-High Waiting Times Are Costing Lives

•Over 7.5 million people in the UK are currently waiting for hospital treatment—the highest number in NHS history.

•A&E departments are overcrowded, with patients waiting 12 hours or more for urgent care.

•Cancer patients are facing delays in diagnosis and treatment, reducing their chances of survival.

2. NHS Staff Are Overworked and Underpaid

•The NHS has over 100,000 staff vacancies, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics.

•Healthcare workers are burnt out, underpaid, and leaving the NHS in record numbers, worsening the crisis.

•Junior doctors and nurses are forced to strike for fair wages, while the government fails to offer real solutions.

3. Rising Private Healthcare Pushes Inequality

•Private healthcare providers are profiting from NHS failures, offering faster treatment to those who can afford it.

•More people are being forced to pay out-of-pocket for treatments that should be covered by the NHS.

•The UK is moving towards a two-tier healthcare system, where only the wealthy can access timely medical care.

4. Lack of Investment in Hospitals and Equipment

•Many NHS hospitals are crumbling, with outdated equipment and a lack of beds.

•The government has repeatedly failed to deliver on promised new hospitals, leaving the system under strain.

•Ambulance response times are dangerously long due to underfunding and lack of resources.

What We Are Demanding

To protect the NHS and ensure quality healthcare for all, we call on the UK government to take immediate action:

1. Increase NHS Funding to Meet Growing Demand

•Provide urgent emergency funding to reduce waiting lists and support struggling hospitals.

•Commit to long-term sustainable NHS funding that grows in line with healthcare needs.

•Ensure that NHS money goes to patient care—not private contracts and outsourcing.

2. Hire More Doctors, Nurses, and Healthcare Workers

•Increase NHS salaries to retain skilled workers and attract new recruits.

•Offer better working conditions, reduced hours, and mental health support for frontline staff.

•Remove bureaucratic barriers preventing foreign-trained medical professionals from working in the NHS.

3. Reduce NHS Waiting Times for Patients

•Implement urgent reforms to clear backlog surgeries and speed up A&E care.

•Improve GP appointment availability to reduce strain on hospitals and emergency services.

•Guarantee that cancer and life-threatening conditions receive immediate priority treatment.

4. Stop the Privatisation of the NHS

•Halt the growing influence of private companies within the NHS.

•Reverse the outsourcing of NHS services that leads to higher costs and worse patient care.

•Ensure that all UK residents have access to free, high-quality healthcare—without paying for private alternatives.

5. Invest in NHS Infrastructure and Technology

•Build new hospitals and modernize existing ones to handle increasing patient demand.

•Expand the number of NHS hospital beds to reduce overcrowding and speed up admissions.

•Increase funding for medical research and digital healthcare systems to improve efficiency.
