Stop the Front Street Extension!

The City of Toronto has plans to extend Front Street westward from Bathurst to Dufferin. This four-lane road and its on/off ramps to the Gardiner Expressway, would make Toronto's waterfront neighbourhoods, such as Parkdale, Liberty Village, and Niagara, auxiliary parts of the Gardiner.

This new road will mean:
* inundating the bordering neighbourhoods with unmanageable traffic as there are no real plans to deal with the estimated 2400 vehicles per hour that would be redistributed from the Gardiner Expressway to Front Street
* exposing neighbouring residents to higher levels of air pollution, specifically fine particulate matter
* an increase in respiratory illnesses, including asthma
* an increase in noise

The price tag for the 2 kilometer Front Street Extension has already ballooned to over $250 millionmaking it the most expensive road per kilometer in Canada. And instead of supporting waterfront renewal, it will become another barrier between Torontonians and their waterfront.

We the undersigned insist that the City of Toronto not go forward with the Front Street Extension but rather explore other viable alternatives to address Torontos traffic infrastructure needs.
