Stop the NCAA hypocrisy and corruption

"..committed to supporting athletics participation opportunities for student-athletes" and "..committed to protecting the best interests of student-athletes" are just two points of emphasis of the NCAA's mission statement. However, in past years the NCAA has been protecting its old, Stalinist ways designed to restrict student-athlete freedom at any cost. Many athletes have been deprived of their hard-earned opportunities to turn professional, continue with their collegiate career or in some cases such as USC's Mike Williams, both. The NCAA's real interests are primarily money and power. Whether it is preserving its outdated bowl system (which grossed just under a quarter of a billion dollars in 2003-04) or flexing its considerable muscle, something must be done to stop this monster. This bureaucracy and its outdated, stagnant policies are in much need of immediate reform. The NCAA has never catered to the individuals for which it was founded, but perhaps with enough opposition it will have to.
