We object to political and advocacy spending by corporations, wealthy individuals and PACs which has reached obscene levels. We object that so much of that spending is shrouded in secrecy. We object that secret donors may establish and maintain groups with innocuous- or patriotic-sounding names, names which may themselves be deceptive.
We demand that steps be undertaken to shed sunlight on donors and groups who hide in the shadows while promoting a personal- or business-related agenda which may not be in the best interest of the public and the nation.
Names of all donors who contribute more than a modest amount to fund political activities should be publicly-accessible. Names of all donors who fund groups engaged in public activities or which are involved in promoting a cause or action should be publicly-accessible. Any group or organization which holds an IRS non-profit status should be required to publicly disclose full information about funding sources if that group or organization engages in ANY political activity.
